How to Calculate Total Work Experience
Whether you are filling out a job application, updating your resume, or applying for a work visa, you will often be asked for your exact total work experience. Combining multiple jobs over several years can make the math tricky due to leap years and varying month lengths.

Handling Overlapping Jobs
If you worked two jobs at the same time (e.g., a full-time role and a part-time weekend gig), most HR systems do not allow you to double-count that time towards your chronological total experience.
Tip: If you have overlapping periods, you should enter them as a single continuous block in the calculator to avoid inflating your total years of experience, or only enter your primary roles.
Inclusive Day Counting
Unlike finding the pure mathematical difference between two dates (where Monday to Tuesday is considered 1 day), employment is counted inclusively.
